In 2017, the Cazes family, owners of Château Lynch-Bages, acquired Château Haut-Batailley, a Grand Cru Classé 1855 in Pauillac.

The vineyard of Château Haut-Batailley is composed today of about forty hectares, of which 22 hectares are already planted. The vineyard is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 35 years.

Tasting Notes

It's an attractive, elegantly styled wine that has lots of juicy Merlot notes of black cherries, graphite, scorched earth, and spice. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and with terrific purity on the palate.

Fresh and driven, opening with a piercing iron note that is quickly met by a core of cassis and plum flavors. Dark and pure on the nose just a touch stony/smoky to add finesse to the fruit. Oak is quite evident on the palate but there's fruit to fill it out. Long on the finish yet the persistence is gentle. Fine-grained tannin texture.

Food Pairing

This Bordeaux red wine is a fantastic companion to a range of dishes. It pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats such as beef tenderloin, lamb chops, or game. The wine's structure and depth also make it a suitable match for rich and flavorful dishes like braised short ribs or hearty stews & aged cheeses.
