Description
When it was planted in 1996, Kanzler was one of the first vineyards in the rolling hills southwest of the small picturesque town of Sebastopol in western Sonoma County. Only eight miles from the Pacific Ocean, the area was long thought to be too cool and foggy for grape growing.
The Senses 2021 Kanzler Vineyard Pinot Noir is medium ruby-purple in color. It needs a little coaxing to unlock fragrant scents of black raspberries, rose oil, and juicy cherries, leading to suggestions of tar, crushed rocks, and black truffles. Floral-laced black berry layers slowly build on the medium to full-bodied palate, textured by beautifully plush tannins, finishing long and earthy. I love the singular personality emerging here!
