The Planeta family planted their first vines in Sicily at Menfi and their most representative wines, including the Planeta Chardonnay, are produced here.

This wine has become an image of the change in Sicilian wine. It was born  from a desire to elevate Sicily as a major force in winemaking. Following a long process beginning in 1985, today the Planeta Chardonnay is an icon for the whole of Sicily. The vines of Ulmo and Maroccoli, from which it is produced, are unique for their aspect and terroir. The fermentation and aging in French wood, carefully and precisely calibrated, delivers a wine unique for its grace and power. 

Tasting Notes

Deep clear golden but transparent color. Rich and intense. Aromas of peach, golden apple, vanilla, and meringue. Hints of hazelnut and of orange blossom give it a rich texture. It is indeed a soft white wine underlaid by a refreshing acidity which accompanies each mouthful.

Food Pairing

This is an incredibly food friendly wine, because of it's richness and acidity. It can be paired with the traditional white meat dishes and pastas with rich sauces, but you can also try it with seared foie gras or with roast veal and mushroom sauce.
