Description

Alvaro Palacios is a wine producer most famous for its Garnacha-based wines from Priorat. Established in 1990 by Alvaro Palacios himself, the winery has been forefront of Priorat's rise to fame as one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions.

After spending time working at Petrus in Pomerol, he bought his own vineyard in the then obscure region of Priorat, where the steep, slate-based hillsides covered in gnarled bush vines had been forgotten about in the second half of the 20th Century. Palacios soon grew his estate and now owns several vineyards in the area, often considered in the same league as Dominio de Pingus or Vega Sicilia.

Made with grapes sourced from 101 plots in 10 different villages, and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot in addition to the anchor Grenache and Carignan blend. The charming reflection of the character of Priorat, a region crisscrossed by ancient muleteer trails. Velvet and mineral, voluptuousness and concentration. A strength that can only emanate from the abrupt vineyards of Priorat.

Tasting Notes

Camins del Priorat is a blend of 35% Garnacha, 24% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cariñena, 10% Merlot and 3% other varieties. An approachable beauty with a cosmopolitan, exotic character. It's young and fruit-driven with some herbal hints from the French grapes, which were picked early, intermixed with licorice and fennel. It's nicely textured, happy and fresh, juicy, clean and with no noticeable oak. It has a modern and clean profile. The tannins are soft and round.
