Description

There are few families that are in the top echelon of every wine category they own.  When it comes to Bordeaux's Right Bank, the Thienpont family is one to reckon with!  Since their marriage in 1997, Jacques & Fiona (MW in 1994) have been dividing their time among their three estates: Château Le Pin (Pomerol) , Château l'IF (St Emilion) and nowL'Hetre (Castillon).

When the Thienponts visited this estate in the Côtes de Castillon during the harvest of 2015, they were immediately struck by the great location and the stunning view, perched at the end of the limestone plateau that runs eastwards from Saint Emilion. Since then, they've converted the estate to organic farming. It comprises 10 hectares of vineyards surrounded by woods and pastures; a varied and rich biotope, situated at a height of 100 m on the Saint Philippe d’Aiguilhe plateau, the highest point of the Bordeaux region.

Tasting Notes

The 2018 is a ripe, incredibly sexy, seamless Castillon from the Thienpont family that's based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep plum/ruby-hued, with a ripe, sexy, Saint-Emilion-like nose of black cherries, chocolate, truffle, and leafy herbs, it offers medium-bodied richness, a round, supple, elegant texture, and a great finish, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 7-8 years, if not a decade.
