Gramona’s history is long and storied, and the property has been a quality reference point in the zone for decades. As far back as 1816 a member of the family has been making wine in Penedes. Today, Gramona is one of the few remaining family-owned estates in the region, with many having been bought by large companies. Gramona is located in the Penedes region of Spain just 45 minutes from Barcelona along Spain's Mediterranean coast. The Climate in Penedes is mild and warm, benefiting mostly from a Mediterranean influence. However, as the differences in elevation are quite dramatic (with some vines at over 700 meters), there are many microclimates in the zone.

This wine has the profile of an Old World Sauvignon Blanc in which elegance is infused with freshness. It displays a lovely round character, yet retains a sustained acidity and a fine balance between the character of varietal and the work in oak, which gives it structure and smoothness. Thanks to meticulous work in the vineyards, the varietal attains an optimal level of maturity.

Tasting Notes

Straw yellow with golden edges. On the nose, good intensity and definition. Stone fruit, nectarine, apricot, pineapple and citrus that blend with a pronounced character of aromatic herbs, including dill, sap, and oregano. Beautiful fine roasts such as vanilla, and nutmeg. The yeast notes reflect the work with the lees. In the background we find a subtle smoky touch. On the palate, wide and unctuous mid palate, good structure. In the retronasal route, the sensations of tropical fruit, citrus and herbal return. In the end of the mouth, the saline touch and its acidity are very refreshing. Long and resounding aftertaste that leaves an elegant set. 

Food Pairings

Interesting to accompany salads, asparagus, tomatoes and peppers. Cheeses such as feta, goat cheese or mozzarella. As an aperitif, olives, preserves and some salted foods are great. Works well with seafood, fish and with Japanese food. To enhance the beauty of this wine, we suggest serving it between 8ºC and 10ºC and drinking it in a large glass to promote oxygenation and thus its expressiveness.
