Description

Situated on the site of a listed flour mill in New South Wales, Australia's Corowa distillery was founded in 2010 after a pair of locals had the vision to transform the site and save it from ruin. The flour mill was purchased from the local council for just one dollar, along with the promise to set up a distillery, and put their small town on the map. That momentous occasion is pictured on the label of this release, which joins the Return to Oz collection from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. There's also a deadly funnel-spider on the label, so watch out. Distilled from locally grown barley, this single malt was treated to a four-year stay in casks that previously held Australian tawny wine – a fortified wine similar to Port. Corowa sits in the heart of the Rutherglen wine region, meaning there are plenty of cracking casks to hand!

Tasting Notes

Nose Candied orange wheels, dipped in dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a touch of honeyed granola, followed by a smidge of dried chilli flake spice.

Palate The palate delivers on everything from the nose, with rich layers of citrus oil and course marmalade, bittersweet cacao, and flapjack studded with cranberries.

Finish Spiced red fruits linger, with sweet charred oak, and a pinch of cracked black pepper.
