Description
The history of Château Pape Clément dates back to the 13th century when its management was entrusted to the Archbishopric of Bordeaux. 5 centuries later after it was put into the public domain by the French Revolution, the estate was bought by Jean-Baptiste Clerc. Following this acquisition, Château Pape Clément's reputation took off, quickly trading at the price of the Seconds Crus Classés, with a quality worthy of the great Château Haut-Brion.
Since then, the estate has continued to prosper until it was awarded the prestigious rank of Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1959.
The Château Pape Clément vineyard is located in Pessac-Léognan and covers an area of 32.5 hectares of terroir of sandy gravel and clay-limestone soils resting on an iron-rich subsoil.
Tasting Notes
Château Pape Clément 2018 is produced from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), supplemented by Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (4%).
In the glass, it shows a superb purple colour with ruby tints and distils a shy nose that requires a few minutes of aeration before revealing an elegant bouquet of small red and black berries mixed with complex notes of flowers, tea and dried herbs as well as a subtle mineral touch.
On the palate, Château Pape Clément 2018 offers a lively and fleshy attack, bursting with aromas of ripe and juicy red and black fruits supported by silky and finely worked tannins. In the middle palate, the fruit releases an incredible freshness with a mineral touch on the finish, of remarkable length.
