Description

Franck Massard is one of Spain’s most respected winemakers. Originally from the Loire Valley, he started out his wine career as a sommelier at several Michelin-starred restaurants.

He eventually moved to Spain and started to make wine - his wines really combine French sophistication with Spanish power. And in a region best known for big and beefy reds, Franck’s white Priorat is a total delight.

It’s made from Garnacha Blanca or White Grenache, which is the same grape you’ll find in white Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Franck’s been buying red grapes in the village of Poboleda for years, and he loves it so much that he bought a vineyard here.

He’s probably the most environmentally-conscious winemaker that I know - he takes immaculate care of his vineyards, with total respect for the wildlife and plants that populate them.

The butterfly on the stunning label is a nod to this - when Franck took over the vineyard, they found 8 species of butterfly. A few years later with all of Franck’s work, there are now 14.

The vineyard is based on Priorat’s famous slate soils - producing a richness and minerality in the grapes that is so typical of the area.

The nose is complex and enticing - with floral, fruity and mineral aromas, there’s lots going on. On the palate it’s rich and crisp, with a long and fresh finish.

This is definitely a food wine - try it with a supreme of chicken with a creamy mushroomy sauce, or also scallops would be dreamy.
