Querciabella Mongrana Toscana Rosso 2020

Giuseppe (Pepito) Castiglioni, an industrial entrepreneur and lifelong wine lover bought a single hectare of a vineyard on a Tuscan hillside and set about creating an estate that now spans the breadth of the region. The name Querciabella means "Beautiful Oaks" as the vineyards in Ruffoli and Radda are surrounded by wonderful oak trees.  Querciabella’s commitment to creating extraordinary wines, without causing harm or disrupting the delicate balance of nature, will not waiver. It is this commitment that makes their wines as lively and beautiful as their land, and it is how they will continue to innovate and to inspire for decades to come. But the real secret is in the soil, the very same from which grow the mightiest of oaks.

The name Mongrana, like Palafreno and Turpino, pays homage to Orlando Furioso, a 16th century Italian epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto. Like the untamed nature of Maremma, Mongrana is vibrant and intense, a charming red wine composed of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes

The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry especially, anticipate notes of kirsch, ivy, pine needles. Juicy, fresh sip, with soft tannins. The long finale is savory with mineral, iron notes that persist in the mouth.

Food Pairing 

This fruit-forward wine has present, yet soft tannins that make it easy to drink. Think of Mongrana as the wine you bring to a party when you don’t know the host’s taste. Its energetic personality is perfect for your Tuesday night Pizza Margherita with vegan Mozzarella and fresh Basil.
